On May 27, GreenHUB, an ambitious cross-border project aimed at creating a Center of Excellence in Circular Economy, was presented at the Laboratório da Paisagem in Guimarães. The initiative seeks to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation, and sustainability of the Euroregion.
Promoted in partnership with the Centro Tecnológico de Automoción de Galicia (CTAG), the Axencia Galega da Industria Forestal (XERA), and the Instituto Enerxético de Galicia (INEGA), entities integrated within the Xunta de Galicia, GreenHUB aims to consolidate an ecosystem of scientific, technological, and business innovation based on the sustainable valorization of natural resources, industrial waste, and post-consumer materials. The initiative involves an investment of €1.1 million, co-financed by the Interreg POCTEP community programme.
The session brought together institutional representatives, scientific entities, technological centers, companies, and public bodies from Portugal and Galicia, reinforcing strategic cross-border cooperation. During the project presentation, several collaborative circularity solutions developed by companies, technological centers, and entities from the Euroregion’s scientific system were showcased. These solutions are focused on the development of sustainable, high value-added products with international market potential.
GreenHUB also aims to strengthen the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge through the promotion of advanced training, the development of master’s and doctoral programmes, the production of scientific articles, and the intensification of international cooperation, contributing to greater European visibility for the northwestern Iberian Peninsula in the field of circular economy.
In his speech, Bruno Pereira da Silva, Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability at PIEP and project coordinator, highlighted that “GreenHUB represents a strategic vision to transform knowledge into innovation, innovation into competitiveness, and competitiveness into sustainable economic and social development for the Euroregion.”
